To Be Your Own Muse is a deeply personal collection of women, bodies, and fragments of self drawn from years of pages within my own art books.
Each figure within the work began somewhere private. Drawn at different moments of my life, these women became a form of therapy: interpretations of my own body, the bodies of other women, femininity, vulnerability, strength, sexuality, and the ever-changing relationship we have with ourselves.
Years later, those individual drawings have been brought together into one large-scale piece almost like a visual archive of becoming.
At its heart, To Be Your Own Muse is about refusing to abandon yourself in pursuit of somebody else’s idea of who you should be. It is a reminder that inspiration does not always need to be found outside of us. Sometimes the woman we are searching for the one we admire, desire, protect, and aspire to become is already there.
Your body can be the art.
Your story can be the inspiration.
Your evolution can be the masterpiece.
To be your own muse is to choose yourself — again and again — and to never allow the world to take ownership of your creation.
You are both the artist and the art.
