ART THAT DOESN’T JUST ASK TO BE LOOKED AT.
Emmalyn Ink began with women, but it was never created simply to paint beautiful bodies.
It was created to give them a voice.
My work explores what it means to live inside a body — to love it, question it, expose it, protect it, change it and eventually learn that it belongs entirely to you.
The women within my work are imperfect, sexual, delicate, confronting, soft and powerful — sometimes all at once. Because I don’t believe empowerment has one face.
But the conversation is bigger than women.
I want my art to create a space where anyone can recognise something of themselves. Men. Women. Lovers. Strangers. People rebuilding themselves. People learning to speak. People learning to be softer. People learning to take up space.
My materials travel. My bodies change. Photography becomes canvas. Paint drips where it wants to. Pages from old art books become new works. Paper collected across the world becomes part of another person’s home.
Nothing needs to exist in only one form.
And perhaps that is what sits at the centre of Emmalyn Inc
You are allowed to become something different from what the world first decided you were.
I don’t want you to simply look at my art.
I want it to start a conversation.
